Plastic & Cosmetic Surgery
What is Plastic Surgery ?
Plastic surgery is one of the most sought after medical procedures globally. Over 17 million cosmetic procedures were performed in the United States in 2017, according to the American Society of Plastic Surgeons.
We recognize that the reasons for considering plastic surgery are entirely personal. We aim to provide a service that is individual, unique, considerate and assists in the development of the best version of yourself.
Our plastic surgical services include:
Breast augmentation, also known as augmentation mammoplasty, uses implants to alter the appearance of your breasts. This is most commonly done in patients who are not satisfied with the size of their breasts. However, it may also be appropriate for those with asymmetrical breasts, reduction in breast volume after pregnancy and breastfeeding and for reconstruction following breast cancer surgery.
It is very important to us that the cosmetic outcome of your procedure is optimal. In order to ensure this, consultation with our plastic surgeon will be required prior to the procedure. This will include a video call consultation prior to travel and in-person consultation on arrival.
Understanding your expectations is crucial. However, it is important that your expectations are realistic. Unrealistic expectations lead to unfavourable results. For example, large implants may not be covered properly if there is inadequate breast tissue. As a result, the edges of the implant would may be felt. Our plastic surgeon will help to guide you through the process of selecting the right implant size and shape for you.
Breast augmentation surgery is usually performed as a day-case procedure under general anaesthesia. The implants that are used are FDA-approved saline filled silicone implants obtained from the USA. Incisions for implant placement may be made beneath the breast (infra-mammary), around the areola (periareolar) or in the armpit (transaxillary).
What to Expect:
An example of Gynaecomastia
Gynaecomastia refers to the enlargement of the male breast. The development of gynaecomastia is related to hormonal changes or hormonal medications and often begins at puberty. Gynaecomastia must be distinguished from pseudogynaecomastia which occurs during weight gain (increased fat in the breast area). Gynaecomastia will not be reversed with loss of weight, unlike pseudogynaecomastia. Surgery is required to remove excess glandular tissue and fat, restoring a flatter contour to the chest.
The procedure involves excision of glandular tissue, liposuction techniques or a combination of both.
Abdominoplasty (Tummy Tuck)
An abdominoplasty, or tummy tuck, is a cosmetic surgical procedure that helps to flatten the abdomen by removing excess fat and skin and tightening weakened abdominal wall muscles.
Abdominoplasty is a major surgical procedure and so it is important to ensure that you are a good candidate.
Abdominoplasty is not an alternative to weight loss! You may consider abdominoplasty if you have are in good health and are at a stable weight. Abdominoplasty is useful especially for women who have had weakening of the abdominal muscles and abdominal fat increase following pregnancy.
If you are planning on getting pregnant again, it is recommended that abdominoplasty is performed after you have completed having children.
Abdominoplasty is performed under general anaesthesia. The procedure may take between two to four hours. The procedure involves an incision low in the abdomen from hip bone to hip bone. The skin and muscle are manipulated to shape and contour the abdomen. There will also be an incision around the navel (belly button) as it is necessary to move the navel during the procedure. Following the procedure there will be drainage tubes under the skin that will be removed after a few days.
What to Expect:
Liposuction is the procedure whereby fat is permanently removed from areas of the body that have been resistant to other methods such as diet and exercise. Liposuction allows for contouring of the body to provide a more favourable physique. The most common areas that are targeted are the abdomen, hips, thighs, knees, ankles, face and neck.
It is important to note that liposuction is not a treatment for obesity. Stable weight is important prior to the procedure as weight gain will lead to fat deposition in areas that have not been treated.
Liposuction is performed under general anaesthesia as a day-case procedure. Small (less than ½ inch) incisions are made, through which a cannula is inserted. This is attached to a suction machine. Repeated movements of the cannula disrupts the fat which is suctioned and removed. The procedure may take an hour or more, depending on the number of areas being addressed.
Swelling and bruising are expected after the procedure. However, you should be back to full activity within 2-4 weeks.
